Every September for the past 25 years leading artists, craftspeople, collectors, curators, interior designers, fashion designers, and architects gather at the Western Design Conference (WDC) in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to celebrate the American West. Each participant presents their best and newest creations to be judged by attendees from all over the world. Old Hickory has been involved as an exhibitor, attendee, sponsor, and proud supporter from the start. This past September, Old Hickory was part of the Decorator’s Show House in collaboration with Gibbs Smith Publishers (GS). This show house is placed in the center of the conference and features a five-room “house,” where different interior designers are assigned to each room and partnered with other creative artists to showcase their work. We chose Sandra Morrison, an up-and-coming designer from SAE Design Studio, to plan and design our layout. Our objective was to transform a 14’ x 28’ blank studio into a Lodge Library and display between 75 to 100 books published by GS, the leading publisher for Western Lifestyle and Décor books. Some of the featured authors included Audrey Hall, Max Humphrey, and Chase Reynolds Ewald, who also made special appearances at our event for book signings.
To promote the Lodge Library look and feel, we customized our Big Ranch bookcases to be 84” tall in order to display more books and introduced new product lines that fit the cozy library aesthetic. Our new product offerings attempt to blend between our rustic and modern style. Some of these new products have come to be known as the Jenny Lake Sofa and Chairs, the Rawhide Ranch Chandelier, the Cocktail Ottoman, the Blue Mountain Lake Desk, and the White Oak Low Bookshelves. The focus of the room was on the new Jenny Lake Club Chairs with the colorful Wyeth Trail Pendleton Blanket. To accent the Club Chairs, we upholstered the sofa in full-grain leather and the ottoman in an all-white cowhide. Classic Old Hickory pieces included the 32K Two Hoop Chairs, the 1906D Old Faithful Chairs, modified Big Ranch Bookshelves, a Vanity Stool, a Pedestal Table, and a Gathering Lamp. The featured artwork includes Azadi rugs, Judd Thompson art, and Audrey Hall photography to beautifully tie our furniture and the featured books together into a homey setting.
